Choosing The Correct Food Storage Kit

Along with water, survival food will be the most important item during an emergency or disaster. None of us has a crystal ball that will enable us to see if or when a serious situation may develop, the only thing we can do is to prepare for it as intelligently as possible. Having an adequate supply of food on hand during a crisis will not only mean that you and your family will be able to enjoy adequate nutrition, but you will not have to expose yourself to a potentially dangerous situation outdoors. While it is possible to assembly your survival food gradually, the unpredictability of the world means that you could be caught short, before you have an adequate amount of food. The easiest thing to do is to avail yourself of some of the excellent survival food kits that will give you all you need right away, for whatever length of time you choose.

Emergency Survival Bars

One of the easiest ways to put together a survival food kit quickly is to purchase emergency survival bars, such as Mayday Bars. These bars are generally not meant for long term use, but are great not only during a disaster or emergency at home, but also when travelling, or when camping or hiking. Mayday Bars supply complete nutrition, and are vitamin fortified. They are produced without the use of nuts, so are safe for those with nut allergies. These bars also make a great survival kit for the car, as they can remain fresh for up to five years and can withstand extremes of temperature.

A Basic Supply Kit

Kits will supply enough food for one person for two weeks, and also has some very useful non-food items as well. Besides a tasty assortment of meals, this kit also contains some water, radio, flashlight, portable stove with pellets, sleeping bag, and even a deck of cards, among plenty of other things. This kit can really help you get through an emergency with as little trouble as possible.

Long Term Food Supplies

Probably the ultimate in survival preparations is to be able to provide emergency food for a prolonged term; months rather than days or even weeks. It is possible to purchase a three, six, or twelve month supply of Wise Foods that will enable you and your family to maintain their health and nutrition during the longest of emergencies. These kits will give you the option of two or three meals per day, and provide both breakfast and a main course meal. There is enough variety in the meals to guarantee that you will not become bored with any of the food quickly.

Wise Foods have a shelf life of 25 years, but you should be aware that you will have to store these foods correctly to get the maximum useful life from them. You should keep Wise Foods, unopened, in a cool place, probably the basement. They will keep best at 50 to 55 F, but as the temperature rises, the shelf life will diminish.
