Camp Stoves are Great for Emergency Cooking
Emergencies and disasters can cause loss of electric power and disruption to gas mains. Once these sources are unavailable, you will be unable to cook food, or even make tea or coffee. As most emergency food does not consist solely of meals-ready-to-eat or emergency rations, it will soon become difficult to prepare meals. A hot meal is especially important during colder weather when your ordinary source of home heating is not available. Camp stoves have been used for years by camping enthusiasts, but are equally good at enabling you to cook during times of emergency or disaster. Bear in mind, however, that all of these stoves need fuel, and having enough on hand to last for at least a week would be prudent.
GAS ONE Portable Gas Stove
The GAS One is a great small stove to include in your emergency equipment. This stove will allow you to cook a meal regardless of the circumstances, and is safe to use anywhere, even inside your home. It runs on 8 ounce canisters of butane gas, and will provide several hour’s worth of cooking on each canister. The GAS ONE is easy to use and heats up quickly. However, the canisters of butane will probably not be available to you locally, so if you purchase this stove, be sure to also buy extra canisters. It has an automatic ignition for safety and will shut off if upset.
MSR Pocket Rocket Stove
This is a small, portable stove that can be tucked away in a closet until needed. Rather than run on butane canisters, the MSR Stove uses premium fuel from MSR. The stove weighs only 3 ounces so is easy to transport. The single burner on the top of the stove can boil water in less than 4 minutes, and you can use a small pot on it to heat food. You should keep in mind that this stove is somewhat easy to tip over, so make sure you set it up on a level surface.
Camp Chef Camping Outdoor Oven w 2 Burner Stove
If you are looking for the ultimate in convenience and ease of cooking during an emergency or disaster, the Camp Chef Stove is the one for you. This stove has two burners and an oven, so you will basically be able to cook and bake as you ordinarily would. While originally designed as a camp stove, many people do use it as a back-up stove for use during times when the power is out. This stove runs on 1 pound propane canisters, and one of these will run the oven on its highest heat (400 F) for 5 hours. The lid has attached wings that will act as wind baffles if you are using the stove outdoors. The Camp Chef Stove is a high quality stove, built to last, and is easy to use. There is an automatic ignition for the burners and oven, but as the oven has only settings for low to high, be sure to keep an eye on the included oven thermometer to make sure the temperature is correct.
