What are Public Safety Departments?
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) also known as an Office of Public Safety is a local or state government which serves to assist agencies by providing administration, financial and technical support and services for core public functions. The Department of Homeland Security is the federal level Department of Public Safety.
Fire and Rescue services

· Administration of driver’s licenses and license plates.
· Wild life officers, game wardens and dog catchers
Office of Emergency Services OES
· Operates and plans for emergency communications telephone systems that include enhanced 9-1-1 and 9-1-1
· In times of disasters, amateur radio is used for communication. Cell phones and land lines often fail when there is an emergency. Amateur radio operations may be called in to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for support.

E-911 or E911 is a telecommunications system that automatically associates a physical address the caller telephone number and routes the call to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for that address. This will provide emergency responders with the location of the emergency. It is useful during break-ins, kidnapping or fires when the person calling is not able to communicate.
