Respiration Devices For Survival

Disasters can strike at any time, and with it comes the chance that you and your family will become exposed to airborne materials, as was witnessed in New York City in the attacks of September 11, 2001. Collapsing building debris filled the air on Manhattan Island, and was composed of pulverized concrete, glass, gypsum, and several toxic organic and inorganic substances.

Disaster events from terrorist attacks to exploding volcanoes can fill the air with matter, from pulverized building debris, volcanic dust, to disease-causing bio-matter. Protecting yourself and your family from possible health problems caused by exposure to airborne contaminants is highly recommended.

A respirator is a device that is designed to protect an individual from inhaling contaminant dusts, fumes, or vapors, gases, and smoke. These lifesaving items are manufactured in a variety of types and styles, and are used by those serving in the military, working in private industry, as well as in public works. They range from inexpensive disposable masks, to reusable types that feature replaceable cartridges.

The most common type is the mechanical filter respirator. The contaminated air is actually forced through the filter element through normal breathing, while the contaminant itself is captured by the filter element.

The Xcaper® Smoke Mask captures dust, smoke, airborne fiber such as insulation measuring as small as 3/10ths of a micron. Please note that a strand of human hair is approximately ten microns thick. It uses a patented all-natural moist filtration technology which absorbs hazardous toxins, such as Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Cyanide. It will also absorb 100% of particulate matter found in fire smoke.

The iEvac Fire Escape Hood is intended for the victim to escape a building fire safely with no physical harm to the face of the wearer. This respirator provides excellent protection for fire-related hazards, and is the first of its kind to be certified to the American National Standard for Smoke Escape Devices. (See # ANSI/ISEA 110-2003 – Respiratory Protective Smoke Escape Device.)

This hood protects against the following toxic gases: carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, chlorine, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen sulfide, and fire smoke.
Along with this, the wearer is protected against harmful particulates such as fumes, soot, and aerosols. The iEvac Fire Escape Hood has a HEPA filter which removes approximately 99.996% of the following harmful, life-threatening disease particles: anthrax, smallpox, and radioactive particles.

The U. S. Consumer Products Safety Commission states: “Emergency escape masks have the potential to reduce consumer-related deaths and injuries by assisting in egress from fires, provided they perform effectively and reliably.”
