Emergency Supply - All About Water

 How Much Water is Needed?
  1. Recommended 1 gallon per day per person.
  2. 3 gallons total for 72 hr period.
  3. Pets need approximately 6 cups per day.Emergency Water Supply

Sterilizing Water

Boiling
  1. Bring water to a boil and then simmer for a few minutes.
  2. Cover the pot to shorten boiling time and conserve fuel.
Using Chlorine Bleach
  1. Let water stand until dirt/particles settle to the bottom.
  2. Pour clear water into uncontaminated container.
  3. Add 2 drops of bleach per quart of water.
  4. Mix well and wait 30 minutes.
  5. Water should smell slightly like bleach, if not, repeat dose.
  6. Wait 15 minutes and check again.
  7. If slight bleach smell is present, water is ready.  If not, repeat steps above until it is ready.
Sterilizing Containers
  1. Wash and rinse container.
  2. Mix 1 Tbs regular Clorox bleach with one gallon of water.
  3. Soak in sanitizing solution for 2 minutes.
  4. Drain and air dry.
