Building Temporary Shelter • Choose a safe location away from damaged buildings and
power lines
• If you have a clothesline you can drape a tarp over it, use extra blankets and tarps to close off sides and block drafts
• Canopies and awnings can be enclosed with tarps to block the elements as much
as possible
• Use a fence
• Wooden pallets, carpet, cardboard or another tarp to use as flooring
• Make sure to always have a Survival Kit at hand or at least supplies to build your own. These make a world of difference when you are trying to set up a home away from home. • If you can return to your house safely, drag mattresses, box springs and
