A Practical First Aid Kit for the Car
Problems can arise anywhere, but
there is no arguing with the fact that when an emergency arises while you are traveling, it is much more inconvenient than when you are at home. Being
stuck in a traffic jam when an injury or illness occurs is every bit as
inconvenient as having an emergency happen when you’re driving in the
wilderness.
Having
some helpful items on hand can make a real difference.
Although it would be easiest if you
were simply able to call for help on a cell phone, but if you don’t have one,
or if you are traveling through an area where there is no reception, you will
need to care for yourself for a time, at least.
Gather Some Essential Items
To begin with, get a container to hold the items you will be putting into your
first aid kit. Finding a roll of adhesive tape that has been rolling
around the floor will delay treating an injury and be frustrating as
well. You can put your kit into a backpack, duffel bag, or even a
cardboard box. The main point is to have all your emergency supplies in
one spot, where you will be able to access them easily.
Minor injuries will not become major problems if you are able to deal with them
quickly. Your first aid kit should contain adhesive bandages in several
sizes, a roll of gauze, adhesive tape, antiseptic, antibacterial cream or
ointment, ace bandage, tweezers, pain reliever, instant ice packs, and
tissues. A pair of scissors should also be included. A great idea is to invest in a kit that comes with all of this so that you do not forget anything. The Small First Aid Cabinet with 2 Shelves is a great example of such kits.
It would also be smart to carry some antihistamines along in case of insect
stings. An allergic reaction to a sting can be painful or even dangerous
because of the elevated histamines in the body, but taking an oral
antihistamine can help to return the body to normal more quickly. A
topical antihistamine can be carried as well, for direct application to the
affected area.
Comfort And Light
Besides this medical equipment, you should also include several other things in
your car first aid kit. You should always carry at least one blanket with
you at all times. It is also a good idea to have a flashlight along,
too. Make sure that the batteries are fresh or that it is fully charged
if it is a rechargeable flashlight. Light sticks are also a good idea, as
they can be set out around your auto at night. Emergency flares can also
be packed into the first aid kit as well.
In addition to the above, you should always carry water along with you.
This can be used not only for drinking, but for cleaning injuries. Some
non-perishable food such as granola bars or candy should also be tucked away in
your auto first aid kit. If you would like someone else to do your
packing for you, however, there are pre-made first aid kits for your car
available online.
